Homeless Gay Kids - Houston

Mission

Our mission is to provide a dependable, safe place where LGBT kids 13 – 24 who are experiencing homelessness can find support and access to services that will help them survive and thrive.

About

We provide services to young adults up to 24, but we are the only organization in Houston open seven days a week that focuses on kids experiencing homelessness between the ages of 13 and 18. These younger kids are an especially vulnerable and underserved group. We maintain a policy of diversity and inclusion throughout our organization so, while our focus is on the unique needs of our LGBT youth, we do not turn away any young person in need.

Our current project is a drop-in center that will be open every day to provide for kids’ immediate needs as well as a place where they can learn life skills for a better future. The drop-in center will be a day shelter providing services such as:

  • Food
  • Skill-building – teaching life skills, survival skills
  • Referrals to resources
  • WiFi and phone charging
  • Backpacks & hygiene kits
  • Ongoing compassion for building positive relationships

We are a new, non-profit organization [501(c)(3)]. We rely on the services of volunteers and donors from the community.
