with the Raquel Cepeda Jazz Septet

Jazz singer and songwriter Raquel Cepeda presents her annual Christmas Jazz Concert on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the Midtown Arts and Theater Center of Houston.

With a beautiful selection of Seasonal Jazz tunes, Christmas songs from around the world, original jazz arrangements and original Christmas music, Cepeda and her band will once more warm up the hearts of the Houston audience and ablaze the joy of this beautiful season in a concert open to all ages.

Cepeda will be performing as a jazz septet. Her band is composed by top jazz musicians from far reaching geographies: Barry Sames on the piano and David Craig on double bass from North America. Adriano Santos on drums and Cassio Duarte on percussion from Brazil, Ernesto Vega on sax, flute and clarinet from Cuba, and Salvador Velazco on trumpet from Mexico. 

Biography

Raquel Cepeda is a Houston jazz singer and songwriter who brings the best styles and rhythms from around the world to the refined language and aesthetics of jazz. A performer whose interpretative quality, approach to story telling, and multi-cultural style has the ability to reach the hearts and ears of the most demanding and diverse audiences. 

A highly regarded singer who has shared the stage with jazz legends such as Ellis and Delfeayo Marsalis, Raquel Cepeda is also a former Geologist for the oil industry and is originally from Venezuela. 

She has released two albums as a soloist. Her latest album “Passion” was nominated for “Best Jazz Album” at the 2020 Pepsi Music Awards and remained in the #1 position of the Roots Music Report Jazz chart for 8 consecutive weeks.

Cepeda has performed at notable Houston stages including the Miller Outdoor Theatre, the MATCH Theater and The Heights Theater; in New York at Joe's Pub and internationally in countries such as Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela.
