This concert offers a musical journey through Franz Liszt’s relationship with Italy, as captured in his celebrated collection Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage). These works reflect key periods of Liszt’s life—from the passionate expressions of youth to the reflective spirituality of his later years.

The program begins with Three Sonnets of Petrarch, romantic and lyrical pieces composed during Liszt’s younger years, setting the poetry of Francesco Petrarca to music for tenor and piano.

The journey continues with solo piano works inspired by Liszt’s travels and deep emotional connection to Italy. The Venezia e Napoli suite evokes the charm and vitality of Venice and Naples, written during his adult travels. Finally, pieces from the Troisième année (Third Year) reflect his later years spent at Villa d’Este, imbued with mysticism and contemplation.
