Celebrating Five Years of Arts & Culture in Houston

Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston marks five years of serving Houston’s artists and organizations. Although temporarily closed to the public due to the pandemic, MATCH and a number of artists reflect back on how the facility has benefited the Houston arts community.

After its initial conception in 2003, followed by twelve years of planning, fundraising, and construction, MATCH hosted its first performance on October 2, 2015. Three months after this soft opening, MATCH announced its grand opening in January 2016 and marked the occasion with a block party.

MATCH Closed to the Public

On Monday Harris County and the City of Houston updated their guidelines for everyone to avoid groups of 10 or more people. Accordingly, MATCH will be closed to the public until further notice.

All events through April 5 are cancelled and so are many events that were scheduled later in April and May. Events that remain scheduled now may very well be cancelled soon as we contact presenters and assess the changing situation.

MATCH is committed to the health and safety of all audiences, artists, and others who use the facility. We are closely monitoring developments around COVID-19 and the novel coronavirus that causes it, and looking to the Houston Health Department, Harris County Public Health, and other public health authorities for guidance and recommendations.

As of today, there have been no recommendations to avoid public gatherings, and accordingly all events at MATCH are expected to go on as planned.
