Musica Tra Amici introduces our new artistic co-director, internationally acclaimed violinist Boson Mo, in Inspired by the Violin. A laureate of numerous international competitions and named as one of Canada’s “30 under 30 Top Classical Musicians of 2015” Boson studied at the Shepherd School of Music and recently returned to Houston to take the Assistant Concertmaster position in the Houston Symphony (the same position Musica Tra Amici founder Eric Halen originally occupied) Along with cellist Brinton Averil Smith and pianist Evelyn Chen, Boson presents a program of iconic romantic works whose composition was the result of close friendships between composers and their violinist friends. The program includes a Romance by Clara Schumann, two movements of the “Frei aber einsam” sonata composed by Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann as a gift to their friend, violinist Joseph Joachim, two songs of Korngold transcribed for the violin and the spectacularly virtuosic Carmen Fantasie composed by Franz Waxman on themes from Bizet’s Carmen for the 1946 movie Humoresque. The evening concludes with Mendelssohn’s passionate C minor trio with Evelyn Chen and Brinton Averil Smith, followed by our typical Musica Tra Amici reception where the audience and musicians mingle over wine and Hors d’oeuvres. Please join us for an evening of iconic romantic and virtuosic music for the violin, as we welcome a new rising star to our Musica Tra Amici family!
