by Velvia Keithley - A Special Industry Staged Reading
Does It Make A Sound? is a new full-length historical drama by Houston playwright and theatre educator Velvia Keithley. Set in Texas and Boston in 1895, the play follows Ophelia Freeman, a brilliant young Black woman pursuing a medical education in a world determined to silence her voice, and Katherine MacNeil, her white half-sister whose privilege cannot protect her from insecurity, expectation, and the limitations placed upon women of the era. As the sisters struggle toward the same impossible dream, they are forced to confront questions of race, morality, family loyalty, and who history chooses to remember.Read more
