Who are we before the world tells us who to be?

Living Context is a documentary film directed by Charlise that explores how identity is shaped, challenged, and continually redefined through our experiences, relationships, and communities.

Centered on the voices of Black women in Houston, the film brings together personal reflections on family, cultural expectations, belonging, self-expression, and the ongoing process of becoming.

Through four interconnected movements—Identity, Awareness, Expression, and Community—Living Context considers the relationship between the people we have been, the people we are becoming, and the influence we have on one another.

At its heart is a question:

If so much of who we become is shaped by the world around us, how do we decide who we become for ourselves?

Following the screening, guests are invited to participate in a community conversation exploring the film's themes and the experiences that connect us.
