Since its founding in 1839, Christ Church has been proclaiming in word and deed the love of God that was made known in the person of Jesus Christ. At its inception, the church was a small parish situated in the middle of a tiny, swampy settlement town.
Today, Christ Church Cathedral sits at the heart of the country’s fourth largest city, a beacon of faith and charity to a thriving metropolitan center. Between then and now we have survived several destructive fires, been inspired by numerous great leaders, received designation as the cathedral of the Diocese of Texas, and completed a magnificent construction and renovation project to meet needs of the 21st century.
As a cathedral parish, we are more than just the church home to thousands of Houstonians. We are the “seat” of the Bishop of Texas. We are a place of hospitality and worship for all Episcopalians in the Diocese of Texas. We are an ecumenical center of learning and formation for Christians of all backgrounds and many non-Christians. We are the parent of over a dozen outreach organizations meeting the needs of countless people in need around our community. We are all this and more. We are Christ Church Cathedral.
