Mission

The mission of Grupo de Teatro Indigo is to educate by preserving, presenting, and promoting Latino Culture through the performing, visual, and literary arts.

About

Vision:

Our Vision is to bring inspiration and innovation to every community by using the arts as a medium to educate diverse cultures and traditions.

Grupo de Teatro Indigo is a Houston based Hispanic theater company founded by Eddie González and Domingo Banda in 2007, legally becoming a 501c non-profit organization in 2023.

Grupo de Teatro Indigo (GTI) started in October 2007, when a group of members of EPJ (Encounters of Youth Promotion), a Catholic movement of young adults that promotes leadership among the communities, got together to present a play called  “Índigo”, written by Eddie Gonzalez, to help the group raise funds for their annual retreat. Never knowing it was going to be the very first theatrical play we produced.

After noticing an attendance of more that 200 people at the event, they decided to continue doing other presentations to help other parishes, totaling two years (2007-2009) of presentations of “Indigo”.

Grupo de Teatro Indigo went from presenting in small stages to larger stages and venues, always producing our own plays in every aspect. One example is the stage at MidTown Art Center, a black box theater, then Talento Bilingue de Houston, and now presenting at  Miller Outdoor Theater.

In these past years, Grupo de Teatro has expanded disciplines to work, and have produced, directed and written four seasons of the web series Flas Novelas, totaling 18 episodes. Several of these were presented in different conventions like National LatinX Conf on HIV, CDC, The United States Conference on HIV/AIDS (USCHA), in cities like Albuqeurque, Atlanta, Austin, Hollywood and Orlando, FL

We have also produced and directed a feature film adapting our play “Stigma Zero Positivo”, and we have written, directed and produced several Public Service Announcements, for FLAS, AIDS Foundation Houston, It’s Ok Not To Be Okay Campaign and others.

We have done radio with on-line station GQ radio with our show “Tercera Llamada”, where we talked about art and mental health.
