Jasmine Hearn, a 2025 researcher-in-residence at the Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning at Rice University and the African American Historical Research Center at the Gregory Campus, 2023 Rome Prize Fellow in Design, and three time Bessie award-winning performer (2021 and 2017) presents the 2026 US premiere of Blue, Sable, Turning to Houston, TX October 17.

Blue, Sable, Turning is an interdisciplinary performance that uses song, movement, embodied sound, film, and improvisation in order to tell one history of many of the Buffalo Bayou. This collective dance and sound score recounts key moments of the river's trajectory including the 1836 battle of San Jacinto. 

A dynamic and intimate recall told from the perspective of "Sable Venus" (a past character from Hearn's Blue, Sable, and Burning, 2017), who is joined by a constellation of prismatic story-tellers. Together they share a 60 minute performance that invites witnesses to remember what stories the Buffalo Bayou holds.

Appropriate for ages 13 years old and up.
