Franz Josef Haydn, a Croatian? While the 'father of the symphony's' ethnicity has been debated, his inventive incorporation of and interest in folkloric music from the Croatian/Eastern European region is unquestioned. Join Apollo in an exploration of the cultural inspirations of this seminal composer and the ways in which folk music is transmitted between 'the people' and composer. A work inspired by folk music from Croatia and former Yugoslavia by NYC-based Alexandra du Bois adds a contemporary perspective - a bridge to common ground through ethnic folk music - between oft-warrning cultures.
