Allegro Ballet of Houston mission is to serve as an avenue for dancers by presenting them in concerts at home and abroad as well as offer quality dance training with knowledgeable, caring faculty.
Allegro Ballet of Houston was founded in 1951 by Emmamae Horn and is celebrating its 74th anniversary this year. Allegro was one of the founding member companies of what is known today as Regional Dance America/SW. In 1981, Glenda Brown and Peggy Girouard took over as Directors when Mrs. Horn retired. Now the torch has been passed to Vanessa Brown.
Allegro Ballet of Houston presents a full length production of The Nutcracker every year in December to sold out audiences. The production is opened to dancers citywide through an audition process that takes place in September. An annual Breakfast with the Sugar Plum Fairy and Sugar Plum Market is another well sought after activity for children in the community. Both of these events have been running for 23 years!
