The Dance Program at the University of Houston offers the BFA & BA in Dance, as well as a minor in dance. Our dance degree candidates study multiple areas within the field of dance including technique, performance, choreography, business arts, dance history, improvisation, choreography, pedagogy, technology for dance, dance for camera, and somatic practices. Dance at the University of Houston strives to create confidence in the student through both the disciplined practice of dance and the transferable skills of creative interaction with others. Our mission is to assist individuals in defining their own originality through dance, to develop curious minds, and to prepare students with the life skills of critical thinking and inventive problem-solving. The University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance is committed to providing a center for dance in metropolitan Houston through workshops, collaboration, performances, and creative programming.
University Dance Theatre is the student organization in the School of Theatre & Dance on the University of Houston Central Campus. To be a member, you must be a UH student enrolled in dance courses during the academic year. UDT organizes various activities such as performances, fundraisers, dance awareness outings and fun, social gatherings for the UH dance students in our department. We believe that dance is vital to life, and we hope to stir a passion for dance at UH and beyond.
