Dance Afrikana ’s 3rd Annual Kuumba Festival is a festival of creativity in Black performing arts which celebrates the Kwanzaa season through Kuumba, one of its seven principles. Kuumba is the Kiswahili word for creativity, and its purpose is to leave the community “more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.”

The performance showcases dance, music, poetry, theater, fashion, and more to the city of Houston as well as embodies the principle of Kuumba.Read more

Early last century, taxi dancers attended dance halls, being paid in exchange for a single dance, maybe paid again for another, maybe paid once more for…?
