KINETIC launches their third season with folk-inspired music from Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Rautavaara’s Pelimannit (“Fiddlers”) and Bartok’s Romanian Dances are rustic miniatures based on Finnish and Romanian folk tunes, while Olli Mustonen’s Sinuhe for violin orchestra tells the story of Sinuhe, the personal physician at the court of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. Closing the program is Bartok’s Divertimento, a staple of the string orchestra repertoire, composed before Bartok left Hungary at the outbreak of the Second World War.
