Pop-Up Kino presents Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Ali: Fear Eats the Soul. A lonely widow, Emmi meets the much younger Arab worker Ali in a bar. They fall in love, and everyone and everything begins to turn against them. Fassbinder's masterful homage to Douglas Sirk's All that Heaven Allows expertly and emotionally exposes the racial tensions underlying contemporary German culture.
There will be a brief discussion on the film at 6:45 PM prior to the screening. This discussion is open to the public.
