This program will feature the beautiful and rarely heard piano quintet of Amy Beach, a pioneering American female romantic composer of the early 20th century. Largely ignored due to the sexism of her day, Beach's works, and particularly this piano quintet, are now being recognized as some of the most beautiful and original American works ever composed. A conversation about Beach's life and career will accompany the performance, followed by a performance Cesar Franck's passionately romantic piano quintet.
Amy Beach, Piano Quintet, Op. 67
Cesar Franck, Piano Quintet in F minor
Evelyn Chen, piano, Eric Halen and Tong Yan, violins, James Dunham, viola, Brinton Averil Smith, cello
