Created to elevate Latinx choreographers and identity, this year’s program returns to the Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston for a two-night roster in Matchbox 1. This year’s festival features twenty original dance works representing local, regional, national, and international artists. This year’s festival is supported by a MidtownHOU Arts Micro Grant and an Arts Responds Grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts. 

The Texas Latino/a/x Contemporary Dance Festival is a program devoted to dance artists at all stages of their careers. This year’s line-up was curated to represent the broad range of Latinx heritage and identity, and includes choreographic voices from across the United States, Mexico, Central America, and South America. “It’s important now more than ever to understand the the term Latinx is simply an umbrella term that houses myriads of cultural traditions, historical contexts, and societal perspectives,” says Executive and Artistic Director Adam Castaneda. “There is no single way to identify as Latinx. What this festival demonstrates is the multiplicity of this constructed term, and does so through the beauty of human movement.”
