Musica Tra Amici
Return of the Next Generation!
Brittany Halen, Sean Holshouser and Calista Smith, joined by pianist Scott Holshouser, return for a new edition of one of Musica Tra Amici’s most popular programs.
Music is not just a profession, but a way of life ,so it's not surprising to find that the passion is passed from generation to generation. Three children of Houston Symphony musicians have become accomplished musicians in their own right. Brittany Halen, daughter of Musica Tra Amici founder Eric Halen, has made a name for herself as a vocalist, dancer and actress, appearing regularly at Theatre Under the Stars, the Alley, Stages Repertory and Mainstreet Theaters in Houston, as well as regional theaters around the country. Sean Holshauser, son of Houston Symphony pianist Scott Holshauser, has already had great success in both classical and Broadway singing, appearing with the HITS theatre, Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston and Houston Grand Opera. Scott is a recent graduate of the University of Houston where he was the Grand Prize winner of the Moores Concerto Competition. Soprano Calista Ro-Jei Smith, daughter of Houston Symphony principal cellist, Brinton Averil Smith (and Musica Tra Amici regular, pianist Evelyn Chen) just completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University where she appeared as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel and spent two summers at the Aspen Music Festival, where she was chosen to perform for Renée Fleming. She also recently debuted as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi in Italy, and the Dew Fairy in Hänsel und Gretel in Berlin
These three accomplished young performers join forces to sing solos, duo and trios with Houston Symphony pianist Scott Holshauser in an rollicking evening of audience favorites ranging from classical hits to operetta and Broadway. Their first appearance, two years ago was one of our Musica Tra Amici audience's favorite concerts, spanning the emotional spectrum from breathtakingly beautiful to the hilarious, and we are excited to see what they will bring to us this time. We also invite you to meet and talk with the performers of wine and hors d'oeuvres after the concert. Please join us for an evening you will long remember.
