Since their first performance together in 1989, Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar shared an unbreakable musical bond. Their camaraderie found a special home at the Swar Samrat Festival, where Ustad ji’s presence was a cherished tradition for 11 consecutive years. His unwavering support for this festival and his profound connection with Pt. Majumdar is a testament to a relationship built on respect, admiration, and shared passion.
This tribute, brought to life by the intricate melodies of Pt. Majumdar’s sarod and the electrifying rhythms of Pt. Bose’s tabla, seeks to honor the unparalleled legacy of Ustad Zakir Hussain—not just as a musician but as a mentor and a collaborator.
Pt. Majumdar, a Padma Shri awardee (2025) and recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2019), has long been a beacon of the Senia Maihar Gharana. He is a Grammy-nominated artist with his album Soul Call - Om Namoh Narayanay having been nominated in 2010.
Accompanying him in this tribute is Pt. Tanmoy Bose, a tabla maestro of international repute. A key contributor to Grammy-winning albums such as Full Circle, Carnegie Hall (2000) and Concert for George (2004), his ability to bridge genres—from jazz to Indian classical—exemplifies the very spirit of innovation that Ustad Zakir Hussain embodied.
