Gente de Teatro

El Test (The Test)

Gente de Teatro celebrates its 31st anniversary with EL TEST (The Test) by playwright Jordi Vallejo, winner of Spain’s Fray Luis de León Theater Award and Argentina’s prestigious ACE Award for Best Comedy.

What would you prefer: $100,000 now or $1,000,000 ten years from now?

El Test (The Test), by Jordi Vallejo Duarri, begins with an apparently simple question and uses humor and intelligence to strip away the masks we all wear. What starts as an innocent game ends up questioning everything: love, success, failure, friendship, ethics, the fear of time's passage, and the small lies each character has used to construct their identity.

What is extraordinary about the play is that there are no heroes or villains—only human beings confronting their own contradictions. Money is merely the catalyst for conflict, the spark that sets it off; the real explosion takes place within human relationships.

El Test (The Test) is a high-quality contemporary play in which entertainment never comes at the expense of substance, and the actors are the true driving force behind the experience. The play genuinely makes audiences laugh while inviting them to ask themselves what they would do in a similar situation.

The audience leaves entertained but also moved and challenged. It is precisely this combination of humor, intelligence, and depth that sets El Test (The Test) apart.

Jordi Vallejo Duarri made his debut as a playwright with El Test (The Test), which won Spain's Fray Luis de León Theater Award, a recognition that helped launch his successful international career. Later, following its acclaimed production in Buenos Aires, the play received Argentina's prestigious ACE Award for Best Comedy.

Gente de Teatro has paid the author's rights to Tonda Marton Agency, Inc.

ABOUT JORGE VALLEJO

Screenwriter and Playwright

Jordi Vallejo graduated in Screenwriting from the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC) in 2002. He began his professional career as a screenwriter for TV3’s series El Cor de la Ciutat, where he held various positions for four seasons.

Since then, he has worked in television as a story editor, outline writer, and dialogue writer on series for various production companies and television networks in Barcelona and Madrid.

In 2016, he made his debut as a playwright with his first play, The Test, winner of the 2014 Fray Luis de León Theater Award. The comedy was a major critical and public success in its Barcelona production.

That same year, he wrote the TV movie Pau Casals for Minoria Absoluta, a television and radio production company in Barcelona, based on his own original idea. It was the first fictional production about the renowned musician and humanist Pau Casals and a French-Spanish co-production directed by Manuel Huerga (Salvador, 14 d’abril).

Over the next two years, Boomerang TV commissioned him to create and develop television series projects for the American market. This led Warner Bros. Studios to acquire the rights to Zero, a science-fiction series he created together with director and screenwriter Oriol Paulo (The BodyJulia’s Eyes, The Invisible Guest).

He is currently writing the thriller Nit i Dia, a TV3 series about the lives and work of forensic investigators, created by Jordi Galceran, Lluís Arcarazo, and Oriol Paulo, and is preparing his next television film.
