Houston, Texas

MISSION

HUE Mural Festival’s mission is to curate an organic Houston Urban Experience featuring murals and cultural collaborations to engage with tourists and locals while adding to Houston’s mural art landscape and promoting year-round tourism. The festival strives to make Houston an international destination for artists and art lovers alike

WHAT

Houston First presents the city’s second annual Houston Urban Experience (HUE) Mural Festival, celebrating Houston’s diverse arts community. The festival will feature over 100 artists from around the world, including Puerto Rico, Iran, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Spain, transforming Houston’s cityscape from concrete to color.

Artists will have approximately 190 hours to create their designs using various forms of tools, techniques and styles of mural art including graffiti, muralism, paint brush work, airbrush, roller brush, wheat paste and stencil. Nearly 90 percent of the murals created in the events inaugural 2015 year will remain, and new murals will cover an additional 20,000 square feet of wall space within roughly the same footprint. With the assistance of nearly 100 volunteers in the community, the event will broaden its scope of events, guided tours and and community programs.

Festival goers are encouraged to experience the art-in-progress through either daily guided or self-guided tours, utilizing the printed map and brochure. Throughout the festival, visitors can also enjoy artist vendors, live demos, mural tours and tastes of official festival beer Estrella Jalisco at select locations and more.
