ABOUT BLACK ARTS MOVMENT HOUSTON

Black Arts Movement Houston (BAM) uplifts Black creativity and cultural life across the city. Through programs, performances, and partnerships, BAM empowers artists, serves the Black community, and strengthens Houston's identity as a city shaped by Black excellence.

Black Arts Movement Houston was founded by the Artistic Director of Urban Souls Dance Company, growing out of over two decades of work building Black dance art in this city. What began with Urban Souls in 2004 became the foundation for a larger Black arts ecosystem in Houston, and BAM now carries that vision forward, with Urban Souls continuing as one of its founding programs, dedicated to the preservation and continued excellence of Black dance art in Houston.
