Group Acorde's mission is to cultivate and educate diverse audiences through live, thought-provoking, original and affordable performance collaborations between contemporary dance and experimental music. The company broadens its reach through community partnerships that aim to include and engage people from all walks of life through education, dialogue and accessibility.
Group Acorde’s unique purpose is to produce high quality and original performing art collaborations between different art mediums, primarily between experimental music and contemporary dance. The company serves the Houston art community with innovative, accessible, engaging and thought provoking performances combined with its outreach program rooted in dialogue and education. Its primary activities are public performances that result from creation processes that invite different art mediums to dialogue, community engagements through question and answer sessions, outreach programs through special scheduled shows for public schools and organizations, and on site partnerships. Zero to low cost classes and performances have provided local dancers, students and mental health patients with dance to live music experiences. Group Acorde’s public performances use projection, visual art, musical instruments, and contemporary choreography, pushing how performance art is presented through unconventional soundscores and an overall interaction between different art mediums. These works have sparked curiosity from different art enthusiasts from all walks of life and ages, bringing together a diverse group of patrons. Past collaborators include a diverse group of artists: Israeli choreographer Anat Grigorio, Texas choreographer Jennifer Mabus, Brazilian visual artist Andre Amaral, Texas composer Andrew Leinhard, New York based photographer Christopher Peddecord, Houston based choreographers Spencer Gavin Hering and Dawn Dippel, New York based pianist Robert Boston, Houston native’s Natasha Manley, and queer choreographer and Dance Magazine’s 25 to watch Jasmine Hearn.
