Musiqa is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. Founded in 2002 and led by four composers, the mission of Musiqa is to enrich and inspire the community through programs that integrate contemporary music with other modern art forms.
Musiqa celebrates modern creative arts through interdisciplinary concerts that highlight modern music and its connections to literature, film, dance, art and more.
With its innovative collaborations, artistic and educational programming, Musiqa strives to make modern repertoire accessible and vital to audiences of all ages and musical backgrounds.
Each season, Musiqa provides at least six public performances – three as part of our Major Concert Series performed at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Zilkha Hall and three as part of our free Loft Concert Series at the Contemporary Art Museum Houston.
Founded in 2002, Musiqa is dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music, with a focus on presenting new and original compositions. Since its founding, Musiqa has presented more than 100 performances - including more than 20 world premieres – and performed the music of close to 100 modern composers. Our concerts are unique artistic experiences that highlight fresh, modern music by renowned local and national composers. In order to place new music within the context of other contemporary art forms, each Musiqa concert pairs contemporary classical music with another art form, such as literature, film, theatre, art or dance, to create a unique artistic experience. Additionally, through our extensive education programming, Musiqa brings music education activities to close to 6,000 schoolchildren each season.
Musiqa has established itself as one of the country’s leading contemporary music ensembles; its national honors include awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music and Chamber Music America and many others. Also Musiqa is a 2013 and 2016 recipient of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
