Anthony Almendárez’s multi-channel video and sound installation, Hello, My Name is _____, draws upon survey questions related to employment and labor policies in the United States. As part of the project, the parallels and contradictions between predominantly accepted notions of work vs. artistic labor are further explored through a live, interpretive performance by sound and video artists on March 8th.Read more
In Tarps I Trust is a dance work by Laura Gutierrez inspired by themes of blue-collar labor, specifically that of her father, a billboard painter for his entire life. Gutierrez uses the awkward and imposing nature of her father’s materials to incorporate physical labor with choreography, such that they become distinct movement phrases in space.Read more
