Talking trees, judgmental rocks, all natural forces sing and move, attempting to guide humankind back to true symbiosis. And what better way to learn than from a kid’s show? What are humans anyway if not the petulant children of this planet?

What if we used our imaginations?Read more

Doubt, A Parable

The Garden Theatre

Doubt, A Parable

By John Patrick Shanley

Set against the backdrop of a 1960s America in the midst of political and social change, Doubt is the story of when a progressive young priest’s conduct comes under question by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the school principal whose beliefs are deeply rooted in tradition. As the actions and motivations of each are scrutinized and suspicion mounts, the two are drawn into a battle of wills that threatens irrevocable consequences for all involved.

The Garden Theatre is honored to have Ann star, Nora Hahn, return to the stage as Sister Aloysius in this production. Ms. Hahn appeared in her star-making role of Governor Ann Richards in the one-woman show, Ann, produced by The Garden Theatre in February of 2024, as well as a brief stint of the same production in Columbus, TX in October of 2024. Ms. Hahn also appeared on The Garden Theatre stage as Clairee in Steel Magnolias and Gov. Ferguson/Cumie Barrow in Bonnie & Clyde, and has appeared on stages across Houston such as Stageworks, Theatre Southwest, and The Country Playhouse.Read more

The Trap

Denisov Antrepriza

The Trap

a very intriguing detective story. A comedy inspired by Robert Thomas' play

A groom on a honeymoon in a mountain village - reports the disappearance of his wife to the police. Indeed, she has not returned for a few days, following a dispute, and he is worried. When the priest of the village arrives and tells the husband that he has found his wife and that she is behind the door, the stupefaction of the husband is total: this woman who presents herself as being his wife is not. But, to make matters worse, no one knows the "real" Mrs. Corban, given the novelty of this relationship. This Mrs Corban says loud and clear that her husband is amnesic and to confirm her words, she lends herself to an interrogation in order and gets a perfect score. Is he mad or is there a gang of criminals bent on him? A fantastic story follows immediately, where laughter and mystery intersect over the minutes and where the viewer sometimes has the impression of being in the trap…Read more

The Four Horsemen

Indian Performing Arts Samskriti

The Four Horsemen

By Jiva Dance Company, NY, An innovative production exploring symbolism from the story of the Apocalypse through Indian classical dance, music, and poetry.

As part of its celebration of 30 years' service to Houston arts, Samskriti presents the Jiva Dance Company, NY in The Four Horsemen, a highly innovative Indian Classical dance production exploring symbolism from the story of the Apocalypse through Indian classical dance, music, and Sanskrit poetry. The work centers around four vignettes of life and death through four female protagonists who stand for universal human experience. The stories - a woman shackled to the life of a courtesan (conquest), a woman reminiscing the night she spent with her lover who is at war (war), a mother searching for nourishment for her child in the midst a sandstorm (famine), and finally a woman at the end of her life recalling memories that span youthful joy to hardship and loss (death) - are touchingly timely. Perhaps the apocalypse does not merely occur at a finite point in time when the world/time ends. Perhaps, we as humans live are living in the world marred by endless wars power plays, lust for power and control, and amidst nature who gas unleashed her fury on us for our ignorance. Is this not our apocalypse? Can there be hope to get past these struggles? Read more
