6th Annual La Vida Es Cortos/Life is Shorts Festival

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Houston’s one-of-a-kind shorts festival that celebrates and illuminates Latinx stories through short plays, short films, and dance. The festival will once again feature “La Vida Es Cortitos,” two morning performances to delight and excite young audiences ages 5 and up! 

 

Following every performance, audiences will vote for their favorite short film. At the final performance, the top films will compete to win a $100 cash prize and the chance to be named “LVEC 2024 Audience Favorite Film!”Read more

Sixto llega a Nueva York en marzo del 2020 para atender unos asuntos familiares. El último miembro de una familia puertorriqueña ha fallecido. Su única referencia sobre los puertorriqueños en Nueva York es West Side Story, así que Sixto ya tiene una opinión preconcebida de ellos. Lo que él no sabe es que este apartamento fue la Embajada puertorriqueña no oficial en los años 20. Está a punto de descubrir unas historias brutales. Una vez cruce esa puerta, su vida cambiará para siempre. Y la tuya también.

Sixto arrives in New York City in March 2020 to take care of family business. The last member of a Puerto Rican family has passed on. His only reference about Puerto Ricans in New York is the West Side Story. Therefore, Sixto has a preconceived opinion of them. What he does not know is that this apartment was the unofficial Puerto Rican Embassy during the 1920’s. He is about to discover some amazing stories. Once he enters that door, his life will be forever changed. And yours will too.

Bayou City Ballet Youth Company presents The Giving Tree, a nostalgic premiere by Houston choreographer Melody Mennite. The program features dancers of the Youth Company in new works by Dylan Allen and Artistic Director Alex Pandiscio, as well as an excerpt from Marius Petipa's "La Bayadere." Performances also include guest company Ad Deum in "This Bitter Earth" by Steve Rooks, and dancers Jack Wolff and Melody Mennite in a performance of "Owls" by Wolff.Read more
