The Idea of God

An exploration, through the medium of Bharatanatyam, of previously unseen texts and narratives in Indian philosophy and thought. Is he the creator, or is he my creation? Does God reside in art, or is art a pathway to him? Do I seek him?

Samskriti presents the extraordinary Dr. Apoorva Jayaraman in THE IDEA OF GOD, which asks the questions, is He the creator, or is he my creation? Does God reside in art, or is art a pathway to him? Do I seek 'him', or is 'She' in me? This solo dance performance will explore, through the medium of Bharatanatyam, the idea of God in Indian philosophy and thought through the exploration of previously unseen texts and narratives. From ancient scriptures like the Vedas and from Sangam texts, all the way down to revolutionary and modern writing of the 21st century, this visual journey probes the Indian understanding of God through the centuries.
