La Vida Es Cortos/Life Is Shorts is a unique festival that presents short plays and short films to highlight the Latinx community, its artists, and its stories. Short films and short plays are seldom seen by the general public but even more rare is seeing Latinx arts featured in Houston’s prominent arts scene. In its third year, the festival will evolve by including dance performances and short dance films to create a Latinx multidisciplinary experience never seen before.Read more
The Sweet Sky by Donna Holloway was written and developed for New Era Theatre Company. This is the story of Jackie James, a woman who has dreams of becoming a famous singer-songwriter. Jackie is a modest woman who struggles with the decisions between marriage, and giving her full life to her dream of becoming the greatest songwriter ever to be inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. In this hysterically funny drama-filled stage play, two sisters have differences on how a salon should be operated. Barbara, the owner of the salon, runs it like a praise and worship service, while Tamara allows her clients to bring the worldly things in the salon. When love for God, adultery, and partying all enter the same salon it sparks conflict and many confessions! Tamara knows her sister, Barbara, doesn't like those devilish spirits in her Christian beauty shop.Read more
The World Famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a family-oriented blend of the unique comedy and juggling skills of Gregory Popovich, acrobats, balancing and the talents of furry costar: dogs and house cats. DiverseWorks is pleased to present the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts 50th Anniversary Alumni Exhibition, The Happening. Formed in 1971, HSPVA represents the first attempt by any public high school in the nation to correlate an academic program with concentrated training in the arts. DiverseWorks hosted HSPVA’s twenty-fifth anniversary exhibition in 1997 and is proud to recognize the lasting impact of this unique institution.Read more
