Spirits to Enforce

A group of telefundraisers attempt to raise money for an upcoming production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, to be performed by local superhero team “The Fathom Town Enforcers.”

Things aren’t looking good at the phone bank. They haven’t raised a dime, rehearsals are a disaster, and they haven’t sold a single ticket. How far will they go to pull off this seemingly doomed-for-sure production? Why do they even want to?

And what do Shakespeare, superheroes, and fundraising have to do with each other? Well, you’ve obviously never seen a Mickle Maher play. Better get on that.

Spirits to Enforce creates a cacophonous symphony of language. A riotously funny, tender tale of memory, loss, and finding the way back home.Read more

BAD FAITH:

Christian Nationalism's Unholy War on Democracy

This powerful and disturbing documentary reveals how Christian Nationalism has become one of the most powerful political forces in the nation by spreading fear and anger and distorting political issues into battles between good and evil. Their ultimate goal – highlighted in their Project 2025 manifesto – is the destruction of church-state separation, inclusive religious freedom, LGBTQ+ and women’s rights, inclusive public schools, the rights of religious minorities and nonbelievers and more… all while enshrining their narrow and extremist religious beliefs into law for us to suffer under. see the trailer here.

Entanglements

Chapman Dance

Entanglements

A collection of choreographic works by Teresa Chapman

Chapman Dance is back at MATCH September 26-28, 2024 with another evening of outstanding contemporary dance to soothe the soul. Put down your cell phones, computers, VR, and AI and get reconnected through dance. Entanglements is Chapman’s latest work; a collection of contemporary dances inspired by physics and driven by our most basic human need for connection. In an age of polarities, the words of Neil DeGrasse Tyson remind us that “we are all connected; To each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe atomically.” We are all made of the same stardust and how we connect to others creates value and purpose in our lives. Entanglements suggest that connecting with others may be our greatest purpose in life. Read more

“A strong postbop collective with plenty of moves at its command: advanced rhythmic calculus, sly harmonic implication, and cohesive elasticity.” - New York Times

“I don’t want to hug the tar baby.” – Tony Snow, White House Press Secretary 2006-07

“There are aspects of American history that are intertwined with the music that we play that most people don’t want to touch. That’s the function the Tar Baby plays in that story: initially Br’er Rabbit doesn’t want to touch the Tar Baby, and when he finally does he can’t shake it off.” - Drummer Nasheet WaitsRead more
