Fade To Black 2022 Video-On-Demand

Video-On-Demand of this year's Festival

The Movement:

With the advent of the Fade To Black Play Festival, we were on a mission to affect change. It was time for a new trend in the Houston theatre community! We wanted to create an outlet relevant to our present times that was purpose-driven and full of possibilities for growth, so we developed an initiative that created a platform to introduce the new plays of underrepresented, emerging African-American playwrights.

Our festival is volunteer-supported, culturally diverse, and community-based. Each year a countless number of local artists assist the festival in becoming the success it continues to be! Because of our rapid audience growth, we are now embarking upon our 9th season of excellence! Don’t miss this exciting event!Read more

Dirt Dogs Theatre Co.

A Steady Rain

by Keith Huff, Directed by Malinda L. Beckham

A Steady Rain explores the complexities of a lifelong bond tainted by domestic affairs, violence, and the rough streets of Chicago. Joey and Denny have been best friends since kindergarten and, after working together for several years as policemen in Chicago, they are practically family: Joey helps out with Denny's wife and kids; Denny keeps Joey away from the bottle. But when a domestic disturbance call takes a turn for the worse, their friendship is put on the line. The result is a harrowing journey into a moral gray area where trust and loyalty struggle for survival. Who will be the last man standing?

Originally staged in 2016 as the opening production in its inaugural season, Dirt Dogs Theatre Co. restages the gritty Chicago drama with an updated score composed by cinematic pop musician and performer, Hescher.Read more

Cabaret of Shadows

Musiqa & Stages

Cabaret of Shadows

the world premiere of a new chamber opera by Laura Schwendinger, with a libretto by Ginger Strand. Directed by Ken McLaughlin

I wanted to create a new form of art, an art completely irrelevant to the usual theories…” - Loië Fuller, 1914

Turn-of-the-century Paris was a hotbed of artistic innovation, and cabarets were the furnaces where this innovation was forged. It was here that poets, musicians, painters and bohemians of all sorts rubbed shoulders and laid the groundwork for the expressionist, abstract and modernist movements that continue to shape our culture today. And it was here that an American-born dancer, choreographer and light designer dazzled audiences, inspired artists from Toulouse-Lautrec to Yeats, and redefined modern dance, only to be largely forgotten in the decades that followed. This spring, Musiqa and Stages proudly shine an overdue spotlight on pioneering artist Loie Fuller with the world premiere of a new chamber opera by renowned composer Laura Schwendinger. Read more
