The Book of Mary (It Costs a Lot to Be Real), is an autobiographical one-woman show, written by and starring Houston’s own Mary Hooper, and directed by Ted Swindley, founder of Houston’s STAGES theatre and author of the popular musical, Always…Patsy Cline. It’s a raucous ride: from her Beaumont beginnings as a shy child of deaf parents, her timely escape to the gay neighborhood of Montrose in the 70s and 80s, to her adventures onstage in Houston’s way off Broadway theatre scene. Both funny and poignant, The Book of Mary is a love letter to the diva in us all.

"Our girl in this story, Historia, falls asleep reading her favorite mythology book, which is not unusual for her. After sleeping for a little while, Historia wakes to two creatures from that exact book staring at her. They lead her through a mysterious tunnel and at the end of this tunnel lies another world. Historia will then watch and discover many beautiful things in this new world, enjoying her time and meeting new creatures. But when she decides she’s ready to go home, will she be allowed to leave?”

James Just born in New Orleans, La is an Artist. Period.
Since he was able to pick up a pencil he’s been drawing or writing short stories to accompany the pictures.
He started writing Poetry at the age of sixteen as a past time and after a family friend heard him recite one, he invited him to True Brew Cafe’ where he performed his first open mic.
He became enraptured in the experience and was soon a frequent on the New Orleans Poetry scene even getting a chance to perform at the Jazz Festival.
Creating has been his life’s work, his spiritual practice. In 2019 he launched Casa de Vintage Soul ‘The house that dreams built’ A lifestyle brand which currently offers luxury skincare, shirts, hats and novelty items.

A thematic presentation of stories about the many facets of the much loved Krishna, presented by the brilliant Mahati Kannan, disciple and grand-niece of the iconic Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam.
Krishnaya Tubhyam Namaha is well known as the first solo thematic dance presentation which made history when it was premiered in 1975 by the legendary Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. Even today, almost a half century later, like the hero of the subject, this program is still popular. It portrays Krishna in his varied dimensions - as the divine baby, the mischievous young boy, the performer of miracles, the heroic husband, beloved friend, protector of his devotees, and the Supreme Preacher. Mahati Kannan, a direct disciple and grand-niece of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, has inherited her legacy and has done full justice to her lineage and her training by becoming one of the most talked about and praised young dancers today. Houston Storyteller Greg Audel debuts his 1-man show that will take you with him on his visits from Death Row to the Oval Office to homeless programs he’s designed to his visits with legends from Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush as well as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Barbara Bush, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Oprah, Nelson Mandela and hundreds more! Greg’s adventures began at 12-years old when he decided he needed a mentor. But, he didn’t know any good men. So, he called the White House . . . What followed was several years of meeting almost everyone he ever wanted to meet while exploring ways to raise money for Nkhotakota, a district in Malawi.
This show will be the culmination of the daydreams that 12-year-old kid had of sharing his wild stories while doing his best to make a difference to kids, most of whom he’ll never know. Set in the fictional northwestern Louisiana parish of Chinquapin, the play opens at Truvy's in-home beauty parlor where a group of women regularly gather. They discuss Shelby's upcoming wedding to her fiancé, Jackson. The plot covers events over the next three years relating to Shelby's Type 1 diabetes, and with how the women cope with their conflicts, while remaining friends: Shelby's decision to have a child despite jeopardizing her health, Clairee's friendship with the curmudgeon Ouiser; Annelle's transformation from a shy, anxious newcomer in town to a good-time girl then repentant revival-tent Christian; and Truvy's relationships with the men in her family. The full group will join pianist Yvonne Chen in a chamber reduction of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.
