Houston’s premiere multicultural choir presents an engaging program celebrating 25 seasons of powerful vocal music. Reflecting on its legacy of performing songs from a broad spectrum of cultures and languages, International Voices Houston brings back several memorable favorites from over the years, while also looking forward with some exciting new compositions. This choral program features music in several languages, including: English, Korean, Spanish, Bosnian, French, Japanese, Arabic, Swahili, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Akan, and Maori. An evening-length multimedia work by composer Ben Morris, Longleaf tells the story of the longleaf pine forest, an endangered ecosystem spread throughout the American Southeast with its last stands in rural East Texas. The piece traces the history of the tree and the and it's unique relationship to fire with video projections, historical photographs, natural soundscapes, and music, aiming to raise awareness about the ecological importance of old-growth forests, and encourage forest preservation and appreciation.Read more
