Deep Rooted: Celebrating Ten Years of Music-Making in Houston

Featuring premieres by composer Mason Bynes, Evan Ziporyn, and Giancarlo Latta

Kinetic Ensemble closes out its milestone 10th season with a program tracing and celebrating its Houston roots. The evening features no less than three premieres: a new work by composer Mason Bynes (who hails from Sugar Land, and is now based in New York) that expands upon her school-age hobby of composing musical telegrams for friends and classmates; the Texas premiere of In Light of Sound by genre-defying artist Evan Ziporyn, written for Kinetic’s residency at MIT earlier this Spring; and a short fanfare by founding member, violinist-composer Giancarlo Latta. The program concludes with Benjamin Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, which is a nod to Kinetic’s first performance in 2015 that featured this work. Celebrate 10 years of collaborative music-making and “thoughtful, incisive programming” (Arts and Culture Texas) with Kinetic!Read more

Fade to Black Arts Festival

FESTIVAL PASSES ON SALE NOW

For one amazing week, Downtown Houston will Fade To Black!

Emerging from the urgent need to address the departure of Black artists seeking opportunities outside our city, Shabach Enterprise, a minority-led non-profit organization, has created a platform for prominent arts groups in the Downtown Houston district to show unified, meaningful support for the advancement of African-American artists.

In collaboration with our vibrant arts community, this festival will simultaneously showcase the diverse works of African-American performances in film, music, poetry, and theatre. It will also provide a dynamic lineup of workshops, performances, readings, screenings, and discussions to cultivate a greater appreciation for diverse perspectives.Read more
