El corazón del incauto

Teatro Loft

El corazón del incauto

Dramaturgas: Sandra Franzen & Patricia Suárez; Directora: Georgina Palencia

"The Heart of the Gullible" is a poetic and piercing drama that plunges into the depths of desire, identity, and sacrifice. Set in rural Argentina in the 1920s, a farming couple weaves dreams of family and redemption, while truth emerges like a wound too deep to mend. What begins as a yearning for love and belonging transforms into a dance between tenderness and betrayal, where each stitch in a dress unveils forbidden threads. A moving tale that beats with the pulse of those brave enough to love beyond the rules.

It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. Does It Make A Sound?

Does It Make A Sound? is a new full-length historical drama by Houston playwright and theatre educator Velvia Keithley. Set in Texas and Boston in 1895, the play follows Ophelia Freeman, a brilliant young Black woman pursuing a medical education in a world determined to silence her voice, and Katherine MacNeil, her white half-sister whose privilege cannot protect her from insecurity, expectation, and the limitations placed upon women of the era. As the sisters struggle toward the same impossible dream, they are forced to confront questions of race, morality, family loyalty, and who history chooses to remember.

Inspired by the lives of early Black physicians and women in medicine, Does It Make A Sound? explores generational healing, hidden truths, and the cost of survival in post-Reconstruction America.

This special staged reading is presented as part of the play’s continued development ahead of a planned full production in Houston in 2027. The evening is designed to introduce the work to members of the theatre community, potential producers, donors, sponsors, and supporters interested in helping bring this new Houston work to the stage.Read more
