Mind The Gap XXXIX

Dance Source Houston is excited to present the 39th edition of Mind The Gap on May 19, 2026. This program will feature works from a range of dance forms by local choreographers, including Brittany Bass, Shelby CrazeJessie Ferguson (BOOT Dance Project), Deontay GrayAdele NickelKyle Rucker, and Lori Yuill (The TerraForm(ed) Collective). 

Join Dance Source Houston after the performance for an onstage reception to connect with the choreographers and performers of Mind The Gap 39.

Mind The Gap was created in partnership with Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston to support independent choreographers and small dance companies presenting their work. Begun in January 2017, Mind The Gap has provided a platform for more than 150 local dancemakers to date. The program helps choreographers propel their works from the studio to the stage and exposes audiences to new dance makers and styles.Read more

Birthday Variations is performed with permission from the Arpino Foundation and is staged by alumni Kim Sagami. The concert also features original works by Luis Fuente and Rachael Hutto as well as excerpts of Esmerelda staged by Bolshoi Ballet alumni Natalia Charova.Read more

The Pilot Dance Project closes its performance season with Prince of Flowers, the company's first repertory concert since 2021! Prince of Flowers includes new dance works by Adam Castañeda, Ashley Horn, and Julie Rubio, with artistic contributions by Sonia Flores, Lynn Lane, and guest ensembles TerraForm(ed) Collective and the Houston Met Dance Adult Ballet Ensemble. Each work on the program explores the beauty of the natural world and the rich symbolism of flower imagery. The Pilot Dance Project's ensemble for this program includes Allyssa Abacan, Ashley Boykin, Adam Castañeda, Dorianne Castillo, Cynthia Garcia, Keeley Dunnam, Sierra Johnson, Holly Moran, and Kristina Prats.Read more

The Lion's Roar

in the footsteps of the prince who became Buddha

Before the statues and beyond the legend, there was a man—Siddhartha, a prince who renounced his royal life in search of an answer to human suffering. In this solo dance theatre production by Wu Wei Company, choreographer and performer Emilie Anne brings this 2,500-year-old story into contemporary light through dance, mime, and poetry. With a rich musical score and visual projections created by a collective of artists, the stage becomes a landscape of inner and outer journeys. Read more
